Biography

Conor Murray is one of Ireland’s most respected rugby players of the modern era and a central figure in Irish and European rugby for over a decade. Born in Limerick, he rose through the ranks of Munster Rugby, joining the senior squad in 2010 and quickly establishing himself as one of the most composed and intelligent scrum-halves in the game.
Conor made his professional debut for Munster in the Celtic League in 2010, helping secure an 18–12 victory and marking the beginning of a career defined by consistency at the highest level. His early promise was confirmed in 2011, when Munster defeated Leinster in the Celtic League final and Conor was named Munster Academy Player of the Year.
That same year, he earned his first international call-up and made his Ireland debut against France in a World Cup warm-up match. He went on to feature prominently in the 2011 Rugby World Cup, gaining invaluable experience on the global stage. From there, Conor became a mainstay of the Irish national team, contributing to multiple Six Nations campaigns, including Ireland’s historic back-to-back Championship victories in 2014 and 2015 — a feat not achieved since 1948–49.
In recognition of his impact and leadership, Conor was named 2016 Six Nations Player of the Tournament, cementing his reputation as one of the game’s elite decision-makers. Further accolades followed when he was awarded Rugby Writers of Ireland Player of the Year and Rugby Players Ireland Players’ Player of the Year in 2017, honours voted for by journalists and fellow professionals alike.
Renowned for his calm authority and strategic intelligence, Conor has played alongside and under some of the most influential figures in modern rugby, including Johnny Sexton and Andy Farrell. His leadership style has often been described as measured and unflappable — a “ calm through the storm ” presence in high-pressure environments.

Beyond the pitch, Conor has increasingly shared reflections on elite performance, resilience, and life within professional sport. He is the author of Cloud Nine , in which he explores career highs and challenges, and he regularly contributes to conversations around sport and performance through interviews and podcasts, including involvement in the Ireland Rugby Social podcast.
As a speaker, Conor brings authenticity, humility and clarity, translating lessons from international rugby into compelling insights on teamwork, mental resilience, sustained performance and performing under scrutiny. His talks resonate strongly with corporate and leadership audiences seeking real-world perspectives on excellence, accountability and long-term success.
