David Gillick is one of Ireland’s most successful athletes. He’s a two-time European track and field champion, an Olympian, and a World Championship finalist.

When he moved to Loughborough University, a UK high-performance centre, everything changed.

In just one year, he retained his European Indoor title with a time of 45.52—then the fifth fastest ever by a European.

However, it also showed him that success depends on more than individual talent. He built high-performing support teams and learned how to maintain performance under pressure.

In 2013, David retired from competitive athletics. What followed was unexpected.

Without a goal, he lost motivation and began to struggle. His mental health declined, but he kept it hidden.

Eventually, David reached out for help. That decision changed everything. He began to recover and now speaks openly about his experience. His honesty helps others understand the importance of seeking support.

David founded The Point 1 Project to help individuals and organisations perform better. The initiative focuses on mindset, mental health, teamwork, and purpose.

He teaches people how to implement high-performance habits across areas like exercise, nutrition, and rest.
