Topics

Culture, Language, Community and Sport

Gráinne presents and hosts events that are rooted in culture, language, community and sport — four themes that are often closely interconnected in her work. As a fluent Irish speaker living in the Gaeltacht, she brings a deep love of the language to everything she does and is a strong believer in its importance as a vital part of cultural identity. Traditional Irish music also plays a significant role in her life and career; having performed to a high level from a young age, she is always keen to give it a platform and recognises it as a defining part of who we are.
Those years of performing, singing and playing music provided what Gráinne often describes as invaluable ‘air miles’, giving her the confidence and experience to stand in front of audiences and speak with ease. She draws energy from performing in front of groups and brings that presence and engagement to every stage she steps onto.
Sport is another central passion. Gráinne believes it plays a crucial role in helping people integrate into new communities — offering a way to meet others, build friendships and put down roots. In an increasingly disconnected world, she sees sport as more important than ever. She is also a strong advocate for women in sport, recognising its vital role in physical and mental health and wellbeing, and reflecting on the lack of opportunities available to many girls when she was growing up.

Making Connections

At the heart of Gráinne’s approach to presenting is connection. Her role on the day is to create an enjoyable experience for guests while showcasing them in a way that is engaging and entertaining for the audience. This applies equally whether she is asking analysts to share their perspective after the final whistle or interviewing winners at an awards ceremony. Her focus is always on helping people feel at ease and enabling authentic, meaningful conversations.

    A Team Player

Like live television, events allow little margin for error — you only get one chance. She is known as a collaborative team player, happy to engage at the planning stage, anticipate challenges, and align her role closely with the overall vision and expectations for the event.

    Your Time to Shine

When on stage as MC, Gráinne draws on her experience to balance pacing and timing with sensitivity to the moment, knowing when to move things along and when to allow space for guests to share their stories. Her priority is to celebrate those being honoured and help guests feel comfortable and confident, using thoughtful, well-prepared questions to bring their experiences to life for the audience.

This approach is underpinned by careful research, active listening and the use of open-ended questions. Often, it is about being still, pausing, and allowing space for people to open up. Some of the most powerful and emotionally resonant moments Gráinne has witnessed have come from these conversations, and she considers it a privilege to facilitate such exchanges with guests and well-known sports figures alike.
