Biography
From the streets of Amsterdam to the summit of world football, Ruud Gullit has forged a legacy of excellence, leadership and adaptability. Beginning his professional career at just 16 with HFC Haarlem, he became the youngest player ever in the Dutch Eredivisie, scoring 32 goals in 91 appearances.
His subsequent successes included Dutch Footballer of the Year honours at Feyenoord and PSV, before securing a record‑breaking move to AC Milan in 1987. Internationally, he captained the Netherlands to victory in the 1988 European Championship, scoring in the final and lifting his country’s first major trophy.
Gullit’s versatility as both midfielder and forward, his strength, intelligence, and ability to adapt under pressure made him one of football’s most complete players. After his time at Milan, he joined Chelsea where he transitioned into management and led the club as player‑manager to their first FA Cup win in 26 years in 1997.
