Biography

Rory Stewart is a former politician, academic, diplomat, adventurer, and writer and holds honorary doctorates from Stirling University and the American University of Paris.

He co-hosts the UK’s top political podcast, The Rest Is Politics with Alastair Campbell. The show has achieved over 60 million downloads and continues to grow in popularity across the globe.

After a short stint in the British Army and diplomatic service, Rory set off on an extraordinary journey where he walked 6,000 miles across Asia over 21 months.

Following this, he served as Acting Governor of a province in Iraq and founded an NGO in Afghanistan.

He later became a professor at Harvard University and wrote several acclaimed books before entering politics.

During his time in Parliament, Rory held multiple ministerial roles and eventually became a Cabinet Minister and launched a bid to become UK Prime Minister.

Furthermore, he has also authored several major books, one being a New York Times bestseller. His books include: The Places in Between, Occupational Hazards (which is also titled The Prince of the Marshes), The Marches, and Can Intervention Work?

He has written 70+ articles on UK politics and Parliament and his work appears in respected outlets like The Times and The Guardian.

Rory has received The Order of the British Empire and a Gold Medal from The Royal Scottish Geographical Society for his service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He has also earned awards for his writing which include The Ondaatje Prize from the Royal Society of Literature and Prize del Camino del Cid, Spirit of Scotland Award and the Radio France Award.

Today, he serves as President of the non-profit organization GiveDirectly, which provides cash transfers to people in extreme poverty.
