Biography
Professor Mary Aiken is among the most influential voices globally in understanding how technology shapes human behaviour. As Chair of the Department of Cyberpsychology at Capitol Technology University, she leads forefront research into human factors in cybersecurity, online safety and behavioural profiling.
Her best-selling book, The Cyber Effect, was named a “Book of the Year” in the Thought category by The Times (2016) and listed among the top science reads by Nature. Through “The Cyber Effect” and her peer-reviewed research, she has exposed how the virtual world can amplify human behaviour — for better and worse — and why understanding that dynamic matters now more than ever.
Mary’s influence extends beyond academia. She serves as a member of the INTERPOL Global Cybercrime Expert Group and as an Academic Advisor to Europol European Cyber Crime Centre (EC3), helping shape global policy on cybercrime, online harms, and youth safety online. Her expertise is sought by government bodies and international institutions; she has worked with agencies ranging from the FBI and UN-linked organisations to national regulators and major tech-safety initiatives.
